Description | Shell up to c. 60 mm high, solid, weakly inflated, nearly equiconvex, subcircular (juveniles), more elongate (adults), almost equivalve and equilateral, auricles unequal, umbonal angle c. 85-90*, colour variable, milky white with white, orange, red or brown maculations or patches, right valve somewhat paler. Both valves sculptured with 7-10 primary radial lirae with delicate commarginally raised ridges (rarely scaled), 3-4 radial riblets in interspaces with weak erect scales, . Byssal notch moderately shallow, byssal fasciole narrow. Functional ctenolium on suture with c. 6 teeth. |
