Description | Shell up to ca. 50 mm high, thin, semi-circular, slightly higher than long, irregularly shaped (Hinnites-like), left valve convex, right valve flattened or slightly concave, strongly inequivalve, inequilateral, anterior auricle slightly longer than posterior, and continuous with disc, umbonal angle ca. 105-110 degrees, colour whitish, internally nacreous. Left valve opaque, sculptured with numerous, irregularly spaced, irregular radial ribs near ventral margin (ca. 55), hollow vesicles or curved scales on ribs. Right valve semi-transparent, nearly flat or slightly concave, with irregular depressions. Byssal notch shallow. Functional ctenolium with 3-5 small teeth. |
