Western Atlantic, "Albatross" station 2115, North Carolina, off Cape Hatteras, 35*49'30"N, 74*34'45"W, 1542 m; Stn 2215, 39*49'15"N, 70*31'45"W, 1057 m; Stn 2221, 39*05'30"N, 70*44'30"W, 2789 m; Stn 2234, 39*09'00"N, 72*03'15"W, 1492 m; Stn 2710, 40*06'00"N, 68*01'30"W, 1800 m.

  Shell up to ca. 10 mm high, very fragile, transparent, weakly inflated, left valve weakly convex convex, right valve flat, nearly circular, inequivalve, nearly equilateral, auricles nearly equal in size, but unequal in shape, colour whitish, internal ribs lacking, umbonal angle ca. 110 degrees.

  Both valves weakly undulated on central part of disc, smooth near ventral margin. Macro- and microsculpture lacking. Auricles with delicate commarginal lamellae, posterior auricle of right valve smooth. Byssal notch deep, byssal fasciole and ctenolium lacking.



Western and eastern Atlantic

Habitat Living lower bathyally and abyssally on soft bottom assemblages.

  Pecten eucymatus Dall, 1898 is based on Pecten fragilis Verrill, 1897 (not Pecten fragilis Jeffreys, 1876).
