Description

  Shell up to ca. 65 mm high, rather solid, semi-transparent to opaque, weakly inflated, almost circular, left valve slightly more convex than right valve, inequivalve, slightly equilateral, auricles short, small and equal in size, opaque to semi-translucent, left valve brownish, right valve paler, auricles of some specimens orange. Prodissoconch ca. 250 µm in height.

  Left valve nearly smooth with delicate commarginal growth lines. Right valve with fine commarginal lirae. Marginal apron often broken off. Internal ribs 12-15 (on rv more pronouned). Byssal notch and ctenolium lacking.

Habitat  Living bathyally on soft bottom assemblages.
