Type data   Holotype (pr: H 40 mm, L 34 mm, D 10 mm) National Science Museum, Tokyo (NSMT-Mo 69619). Type locality: Japan, Ogasawara Islands, Chichijima Island (Kawamura collection).

  Shell up to ca. 42 mm in height in adult stage, 16-21 mm in juvenile stage, weakly inflated, left valve more convex than right valve (nearly flat), sub-circular, strongly inequivalve, juvenile stage radially sculptures, adult stage irregular of growth ('Hinnites'-like), antimarginal and shagreen microsculpture. Auricles somewhat unequal, colour yellowish, pale orange or pale pink, with small brown spots near umbo. Byssal notch shallow and functional ctenolium only in juvenile stage.

Habitat  Living cemented by right valve to coral Montopora in shallow water.
Remarks  This species is a 'forma accomodata' in adult ontogeny.
